Here is the third of the three basics needed in your Christian journey, that i promised you. I’ve been encouraging you to build the basics into your routine as a follower of Jesus. How are you getting on with the first two?
1. Daily bible reading?
2. Praying every day?
(Drop me an email reply etc)
These are foundational steps as you grow as a Christian, that apply to those living in the freedom of western society in Edinburgh, or to those in a country whose lives are at risk for being a Christian.
The third is equally as vital.
3. Meet together regularly
And let us consider how we may spur one another on towards love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another – and all the more as you see the Day approaching. Hebrews 10:24-25
I’m not focussing here on Sundays, but a regular habit of church on Sunday is foundational. Many people are too casual about coming together to worship weekly. We need to make church on Sunday a priority, so that we can worship, hear teaching, serve, and connect with people. We are the church. See you there.
But I am really wanting to focus on meeting in small groups, LifeGroups. These are where Christian relationships and friendships are formed and grow. And, most importantly, LifeGroups are where you learn how to apply bible teaching to the everyday situations you face.
You need to build a LifeGroup habit in the good times, so that in the hard times it will sustain and support you. I cannot overemphasise how important these relationships are. But it takes a decision followed by an action, and of course commitment.
So the action step to take is to:
- Join one of our LifeGroups, if you are not in one.
- Commit to regularly attend your LifeGroup, weekly or fortnightly. Put it in your diary/calendar.
And, don’t forget to make Sunday a priority too. We miss you when you are not there. Seriously!
