The Soul Traders – Sat 20th May @ The Village Hall

The Soul Traders are playing a gig this Saturday at the village hall, to help raise funds for the village Shop. Doors open at 7:30, and there will be a live DJ Set, soul food BBQ, cash bar, and of course live music provided by Wigginton’s very own funk soul brothers, The Soul Traders. Their set will include classic songs from ‘The Commitments’, ‘The Blues Brothers’ as well other songs you’re bound to know and love, so why not come along and support the village shop whilst enjoying a night of great music.

See the poster below for details of obtaining tickets, which are selling fast. There will also be a strictly limited amount of tickets available on the door, but we’d suggest buying in advance to avoid disappointment.

Wigginton Village Shop?

Please give your views on a Wigginton village shop by taking the on line survey below:

https://www.surveymonkey.co.uk/r/W95NC9T

The results of the survey will be published and presented to a public meeting when the proposal can be discussed further.

For most villages a shop is a vital lifeline and for some people, especially those without transport, it is an important connection with the world beyond their front door. It is a meeting place, communication centres and an important lynchpin of village life. Much of the appeal of our village rests on it’s sense of community. It is the reason many people have moved here and remain here. The presence of a shop would, we feel, greatly enhance that community spirit.

To gauge the appetite for a community shop, the survey has been set up to get your views on what might be provided and what would receive your support.  Paper copies of the survey are available as detailed below if required, but if you’ve yet to give your views, please take a moment to take the online survey – it will really help.

The Big Lunch

The great Wigginton Picnic – 1st June 2014

Come along to Wigginton sports field on 1st June, between 12 and 5 in the afternoon for the big lunch, a one day get together for Wigginton.

Bring a picnic, and we’ll supply entertainment and fun for all.

Attractions include petting zoo, refreshments and childrens activities

The Big Lunch was a very simple idea started in 2009 by the Eden Project. The aim was to get as many of the 61 million people in the UK as possible to have lunch with their neighbours once a year. The idea grew out of national research showing that people were increasingly feeling isolated from their neighbours and that communities were not developing as they did in the past. Organisers say that while there is a significant minority of communities that are close-knit and act as a beacon for neighbourliness, many of the country’s communities are, at best, anonymous.
